What is a therapeutic Classroom?

A therapeutic classroom is a room that has been purposefully designed to put the children’s mental health and wellbeing needs at the core. Everything in the room has been specifically chosen to ensure that the space is trauma informed, attachment aware and inclusive.

Our top picks for every room

  • Aariya's corner sofa

A firm favourite of ours (and the children agree!) Perfect tucked into a corner and so cosy! We can't recommend this one enough.

  • TPC calm LED light

We don't transform a room without adding our calm LED light. These are perfect for creating calm, welcoming spaces that feel safe.

  • The connective round table

This round table is a staple in all of our rooms. Perfect for developing collaboration, eye contact and social skills in classrooms for age 11+

  • The therapeutic classroom chair

Our chairs are specifically made for school children and are made with comfort in mind.

  • Large high table

A game changer, especially for those children who struggle to be in the classroom.

  • 6 seater table

Our 6 seater table is perfect for group work, collaboration and discussion and also a great addition to a nurture room for those children making or having breakfast together.

  • Two brown rustic wooden shelves with black brackets, each with a length of 60cm, designed to be mounted on a wall.

    Rustic school shelves

Therapeutic classrooms don't have display boards, instead they have shelves and framed pictures on the wall. We use these shelves in all of our rooms.

  • Square floor table

Flexible seating options are so important in the classroom. This floor table is a firm favourite with the children, contributing to increased concentration and engagement.

Crafted with kindness

When we set out to redefine classrooms, we wanted to make sure our choices were as thoughtful as our designs. Honouring both people and planet.

Our chairs are made using vegan leather and *FSC wood and most of our tables are handmade, *FSC certified and built to order. We reduce the use of plastic as much as possible, using eco friendly materials instead.

*FSC wood is responsibly sourced to ensure that biological diversity is protected and that forest management benefits local people. FSC wood helps sustain economic viability.

FSC-certified forests must meet rigorous standards that support the environment, society and economy.

Testimonials

“I know for a fact that there is a huge impact on wellbeing- just for the fact they are in the classrooms! Parents gave feedback on the children’s transitions recently, they are saying the kids can’t wait to come to school! Before they were not accessing any learning. But they are all sat around the table doing phonics, So, we are all excited! I can’t thank you enough! It has been incredible. I am so glad I called you. I have no before and after evidence but I do have a huge amount of experience in the field and have opened other provisions before, even with small classrooms and it hasn’t been like this!

It has been such a privilege to do this with you. they are all going full-time – these kids have not done a full day in years. They are all saying I can’t wait to come back.

We had such an overwhelmingly positive reaction from pupils, parents and staff that we then decided to refurbish our KS2 classrooms in this manner. Our children say that the refurbished classrooms are comfortable and enable them to concentrate more. Staff say they have more connection with the children as those at the back are seated at higher tables so have direct eye contact with the teacher and are not obscured by pupils in front. The children say the rooms have a ‘family’ feel and they can concentrate better. They enjoy the flexible seating approach and often choose to lie on the floor or sit on the floor with a lap tray in front of them at which they work. Others stand or sit at the high tables. There is a noticeable improvement in concentration on work activities for children with ADHD. It can look very strange and different when visitors are in school but they all remark on how quiet and focused the children are.

“I like this classroom because it feels like home, I feel safer”

Child

“When I sat on the chair. You could actually sit back and write, instead of leaning forward to write. Then, it doesn’t hurt your back when you try and move”

Child

I have never seen the children this calm!
